Moveable Bascule Span Bridges over Water  (Westhampton Beach, NY)

Environmental Planning & Management Inc. (EPM) performed a Hazardous Materials Survey for two moveable bridges located in Suffolk County.  The surveys were conducted in connection with the proposed rehabilitation of the Beach Lane Movable Bridge over Quantuck Bay and the West Bay Movable Bridge over Moriches Bay.

The purpose of the surveys was to identify possible asbestos containing materials and lead containing paint. EPM collected bulk samples in the areas anticipated to be impacted by the expected construction activity. This included the underdeck (i.e., concrete beams on concrete piers and abutments), top of deck (i.e., concrete surface and steel railing), control house, and counter weight bascule spans.

Reconstruction of CR 3 (Pinelawn Rd/Wellwood Ave)

Environmental Planning & Management, Inc. (EPM) performed a Hazardous Material screening assessment for the Suffolk County Dept. of Public Works, as part of a proposed reconstruction of surface streets centering on two sections of CR 3 south of the Long Island Expressway. EPM collected soil and/or groundwater samples which were tested to characterize actual conditions in areas of suspected contamination.

The assessment identified six (6) areas with an assigned potential impact of moderate or high,  involving active or closed spills of hazardous material, petroleum bulk storage, generation/transport of hazardous waste, discharge of toxic wastewater (recognized facility), and/or multiple petroleum storage tanks on site.
